CNY 2014

Finally, the fat feast has arrived.
I looooove Chinese New Year. The angpaos, the food, the dressing up, the meeting our cousins.
Just everything. EXCEPT THE NEW YEAR SONGS. Oh my goodness #earbleed

I spent $35 dollars on that cheongsam (which I'm only going to wear countable times) and about an hour deciding if I should bun up my hair or let it down.
So I eventually just tied it half up.
It wasn't too bad :-) I got my mother to take my ootd and I really regretted it at first. Because she tried to make me do funny poses which I can't hold for long and I end up in weird positions
THE LAST ONE THOUGH. HAHAHA I look like someone's trying to 强抱(Means force hug right?) Me.

Same as every year, our first stop was my 婆婆 house. (Block 36)
I think my family is pretty cool because my 婆婆is about 70+ now and she's still really active and healthy. And she's a fishmonger! She works at the wet market near my house :-)
My 公公 is a bit more frail with old age now and hard of hearing so there's usually a lot of shouting going on in the house.
"很美很美。今年几岁了啊?"
"十七"
"Huh?"
"十七!"
"HUH?!"
-everyone shouts-
"十七!!!"
"WAH, 十七岁了。很好很好"

Next we rushed to my 阿妈 house (block 23) and every year she would prepare a bowl of sweet noodles for the family :>

I will always end up giving Tammy my longans and taking people's red dates. (My ahma says this is why I have such rosy cheeks)
Ruth was there! Ahhh that cutie.
We wanted to take a cousin shot but James had no one to carry so.....

Then after styling James' hair, (gotta treasure this photo because this is the only time where the siblings actually act like siblings.)
together with Tammy and James and their Dad, we went to Sim poh's house which was at Ubi.
(Isn't it so cool my entire family lives around the same area?!)
This is personally, my favourite visiting place because Sim Poh makes all these delicious new year goodies herself.

The Kueh Lapis she makes are the REAL DEAL okay?
What do I mean by real deal?
It's soft, not overly oily and you can literally peel every single layer cleanly off the cake.
Aghhhhhh, I would grow so fat living there.

Then off to my Kor Poh's house.
We usually stay there for a longer time, at least watching one CNY movie and eating new year goodies but our ride couldn't wait so we only stayed for about 45 minutes ):

And finally, we'll go back to my ah ma house which I unofficially name the "home base" because all our relatives will start coming in so we don't have to travel all the way to their houses instead :D

And finally, I could take off my cheongsam.
Hello, you don't understand how difficult it was to walk (more like waddle) in heels and in that small leg space dress.
Especially after years of ballet, I'm sort of used to walking with my legs a bit turned out so I'm totally not dainty model material.

(Look at my baggy clothes heh.)
Amos Kor Kor came! And he, Tammy and I sat around watching video of pranks on YouTube for the longest time.
Y'all should watch "Real Chucky Ad at the bus stop".
This prank was so scary omg and it was seriously horrible.
I would shit bricks if it was played on me.

And finally, my fifty million cousins came teeming in like a bunch of colourful busy bees.
I've always had a hard time memorizing their faces and their names. So every year I go: "Happy new year, uhh..Ahh. Shucks, okay, happy new year."

BUT THIS YEAR.
They have handbags with their names printed on it
*heaven opens with angels singing*

So I went around like: "Happy New Year, SPRING." And "Happy new year, SUMMER."
(Hey, I'm not kidding about the names. Spring and Summer are sisters.)

We all sat around watching Adventure Time and agh. They're all so adorable.
Every year they come visiting with a costume theme. And this year is just "One Colour."
Last year was some Peranekan theme.

TADA! A funny family shot for you guys!
Every year, the person taking photos will go "西瓜甜不甜?!?"
And the kids will all yell "甜!!!!!"

And every year, as they grow older, the "甜" reply becomes more sian. And this year only a few people (whom I shall not embarrass) shouted that.

Ending off with this photo because OMG THIS DRESS IS 35 BUCKS AND IM NEVER WEARING IT AGAIN?!?!
THAT SUCKS.
IT DESERVES MORE PICTURES. UGH.
(And also because my mouth and my hair look so nice here?! I had to blink a few times to confirm with myself that they're really mine.)

P.S. If you're wondering why I bought it, it's because my grandparents love it when I wear cheongsams. They think my 白白 skin goes well with Chinese-y clothes and THANK GOD, they did like it so that made up for the fact that this dress burned a hole in my wallet.

xxx

Every day, I find more and more reasons to love you.
It never gets old.
